[Nfb-krafters-korner] Braille Card Sale

Hi,
Yes, I think I could do some of the coloring book stuff. I think they are a
great idea. Sighted people might even enjoy coloring them; sighted kids and
adults. We could have nfb info on them too. We could sell them through the
Braille Monitor, Future Reflections, the Blind Perspective and the other
newsletter; can't think of its name right off. Blind post; yeah, that's it.
So there are 4 places right there.

I wonder if National Braille Press could duplicate and bind them and maybe
even sell them for us.

I know they wouldn't work for making one copy because I tried to have them
make one braille copy of my latest book and it was going to be horrendous.
But I have a feeling they might like the coloring book and card ideas.
Thanks
Lauren

Hey Lauren,
This is the project I will hope you might be able to help us work on. I will
tell you a little but Joyce has all the details and what we need. Last year
we, meaning a group of crafters on KK, developed braille coloring books.
Lilly and Lisa Maria took the braille art and made large pictures of certain
items like a ball, top and other things and brailled out one large picture
on one page. Lilly made about 8 pages which Joyce complied into a hard cover
and added crayons and we wanted to sell these coloring books as a fund
raiser for KK. As you might see these are a great deal of work but we have
had inquiries to purchase these books. We need to have someone take on the
project to show us the best way to accomplish this. We are exploring making
a file to be placed on computer and we could emboss to make the books or
reproduce at more than one at a time. Joyce has the info on binding and the
covers but we can not produce these books one at a time. That gibves you a
little info but there is more I am not writing. Please think about this and
you have many good ideas and we need fresh ideas to continue this along. If
this is something you might be interested in following up on please email
Joyce and she can fill you in.

Hi,
What are the coloring books like? Who makes them? How are they made?
Thanks
Lauren

We do have a note up on our website regarding the cards and coloring books
with a contact to me. I have had 3 different contacts asking about the
coloring books. I feel the places that have contacted me regarding the
coloring books could be definitely repeat sales.

I need to get in touch with some folks and move forward with the coloring
books.

We need to divide the cards and coloring books into 2 groups. We need folks
to organize both of these projects. Joyce

Hi Ramona

That sounds like a great idea! I'm wondering about having a system where
people can get them from us between conventions for example at Christmas?

Ramona, could you please email me off-list at Michelle.creedy at gmail.com

I have some questions to ask you but they are more along the fundraising
lines and not at all relevant to the topics on this list.

Michelle

We sold more than 100 dollars worth of cards. Virtually everybody who
looked at the Craft Fair loved them. We know we needed something to put
the bags in. Hauling things to convention is a challenge, and we just did
not have time to gather the right display materials between arrival Saturday
night and Sunday noon.

These cards are a great item to sell. Planning seemed to be slow and
laborious. However, we cannot depend on the convention as our only selling
method. We still have quite a few left, and I believe Kathy F. can
advertise them on our blog. We also need to take them to groups we hbelong
to and sell them at state conventions.

It mayh be that we should just have general messages so we don't need to
vary them with each card design. We can take orders for multiple cards, but
that is not cost effective for individual cards, probably.

Because there are so many people involved, this project seems more
complicated than necessary, but we are a group and need to work together.

Right now we have a very nice cat on a large card, a teddy bear with hearts
on a large card, a truck on a small card, and a teddy bear on a small card.

I brought a bag of stuff home because I couldn't get it to LM before she
left. The committee will continue to work on this project. It has a lot of
potential, and I think we are off to a great start. But selling is where we
need everybody's help.

We can certainly do other designs, but let's get these four moving!

When we sell to sighted people, we can include braille alphabet cards if
they are wanted. The messages are written in uncontracted Braille, so
anyone can spell them out.

To Ramona and LM,

Will you please post for the group how the sale of the braille cards went at
convention. Can we please know if this is something we should continue
again, and ask for people to start making cards so a supply will be
available for next year, or if you feel this is too big of a project to
continue. I can only ask the opinions of those involved. This is a big
involvement for those who made the inserts of braille and the pictures. I so
appreciate everyone who took their time in making the inserts and pictures
and I think they would like someone to summarize what happens at convention
with these cards. Thanks for the time that was used in making and putting
this all together.
