Lauren,

I had congested heart failure and they upped my Lasix to relieve my
symptoms.  They did do other testing to find out what was causing it.  That
is going back almost 18 years  and I did have 2 silent heart attacks that I
didn't feel anything.  Well they did bypass surgery to unclog the arteries
and I have been on a water pill since that time and not had any more
congested heart failure.  

Just slow down and you will be OK.

Hi,
I was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure. That's one of the
reasons I got the wheelchair because I do get way out of breath after I've
walked a ways. I hope I'll be up to the convention; I so want to go.

Lauren, what happened is in 2009 I smashed my foot. I was in the wheelchair
like six months, then part time for several months more. . So I road in mine
through the airport, walked down the aisle to my seat. Then reverse when we
got to our destination. I road pretty much everywhere. Most cities have cabs
or the transit the Federation should have a lift or ramp to get you on
board. You should check with NFB contract to see if they are using
assessable transit providers. I know I had a fit here in WA when the
consumer group did not provide an accessibility feature in the contract with
their provider. Darn straight I checked ahead of time as there were going to
be two of us riding the bus. So get this handled at headquarters NFB right
away. 

The company where you received your wheelchair or a handy person can move
your wheels so you can propel easier. You need to practice in your
wheelchair way ahead of time so you know how to get under a table, or make
tight turns. I took my peddles off as it is tons easier for me to propel
myself. Or I used one peddle and put both feet on one when resting. I used
the other foot to help propel myself. When I got to places my husband found
chairs I could put my feet up on. If you have swelling, you must keep your
feet up when not moving.

Swollen feet are a bad sign of illness. Are you sure you are healthy enough
for the rigors of a convention. Seriously give this a hard think. Anyway,
get yourself to the doctor, please. We love you and want you to be well,
warm hugs.

Oh, that's cute. I haven't named mine yet. My cane is always Bartholomew,
with a kitten's "mew" at the end. (of course). Did they use your wheelchair
or theirs to get you from one location to another, or did you walk?

Lauren, when I traveled in my manual wheelchair, the Flight Attendants
folded the chair up and put it in a closet in First Class. Hey at least part
of me flew in First Class, giggle. I felt so much better knowing it was
nearby, smile. I had a name for my wheelchair, "Joy Wheels."

I decided to get a wheelchair instead of a rollator because the wheelchair
folds in so it takes up less room when I am not using it. Hopefully it will
take up less room on the plane, too. It cost less too. I got it on eBay.

Lauren;
Have you ever tried a walker.  I use a relater walker, which has a seat,
when ever I get tired.  They can be baught on Ebay for about $125 where in a
medical store, they are about $500.  My insurance only covered half for my
first one, so we tried ebay and got a great deal.  I will try to find you
and show it to you.  It helps to take pressure of your back and your legs
and feet do not hurt as much.
With my walker, I can almost keep up with Henry and Sophie, four paw
drive!!!
Check with the NFB or your chapter and one should be able to find some
people to assist you in getting around.  There will be volenteers at the
convention.
See you at convention.

I put you down for Monday, 7/6, at 11:00-1:00.
Big chears for Lauren.  She is the first to sign up to help, in the exibit
hall!
