It is a hard plastic, usually found in the yarn section of a craft store.
You can buy pre cut 4 inch squares for this project.
It should be 27 by 27 squares.  If you cut them out, one square is not
really going to matter.
You should be able to find the size 16 needles in this section, too.  The
squares come in a pack of 10.  Hope this helps.

This message is for Terry P. Hello Terry. I just wanted to let you know I
got my plastic canvas book today. I looked at the first pattern and saw that
it used a 26 x 26 sheet and seven count. I'm not sure what size canvas
sheets to buy. And, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use a stiff plastic
canvas or the soft plastic canvas. Could you please help? Thank you very
very much.
