Wish I could invite you all for a real South African braai and fruit cake
and icecream for dessert. The smells of the meat frying on the coal will
stay with you forever. We went to a meeting on Monday where they had lamb
fried on a spit, was heavenly.

Hetty,

Mix up some flour and a pinch of spices and sprinkle just a touch. We'll
remember you by the smells! Old dish towels and old recipe books well used
just have a kitcheny smell that is very distinctive. This is especially true
of the cloth used for making biscuits or piecrust.

Thanks for the interest in my fruit cake recipe. I'll post it soon.
I also love the stories that come with your recipes, makes it so much more
entertaining and special.
Some years ago a recipe book was printed where finger prints and other signs
were added by the printers to give it that well-loved and well-used
appearance. That together with the stories made it a very popular item.
Wonder how to print my Braille collection of recipes with flour added to the
touch of well-used Braille hehe.

Hettie, I make good use of the freezer when it comes to most baked goods.
It's the only way they don't vanish immediately. :) This is particularly
true of anything made with sweetened condensed milk!

Please do share your Christmas cake recipe if you have a chance. My mother
says she used to make one that sounded very similar, but it was before my
time, and I have not seen a recipe or sampled one.
