[Nfb-krafters-korner] Plastic canvas

Terry,

Even if some of us know something about plastic canvas, we always have more
to learn. I think everybody has given her different important aspects of
this craft. But, this is just the beginning. I know when I get a new craft
project, I find it very frustrating to not be able to do anything with it
till some sighted person comes along willing to show. So, why should it be
any different with us? My roommate is a fly tyer (fishing flies). He learns
with any person willing to teach. He learns something from each of them
learning what works for them and him and what doesn't. He's a much better
tyer for it and is now able to tie with what is considered an elite group of
fly tyers in our area. So, we do need to have a class and have more than
one. We (someone or many at Krafter's Korner) could teach a class every
month and never run out of something new to share! Even if it's just a
different pattern, it's worth learning. No one person has all the knowledge.

Greg

There is no need for the glue. Hold your tail against the back of the canvas
and make your first stitch. When coming around to make stitch number 2, you
will cross your tail and lock it in place. Glue can get on the frunt of
your work and there is no need for it.
Did you get my coaster book, from Verizons For the Blind?
I like putting a piece of canvas on the back of my coasters and a sewing 2
items together to make items. I never put fabric or phome, because I do not
like working with glue.
I also edge my work with a double strand of yarn. This gives a cleaner
edge.
Do you have access to books on the topic? How did you learn any stitches?
I have not planned a class, because we all have been waiting for you to get
your canvas.
If you are going to teach yourself, I guess you do not need a class.

Hi Henry
I use paper glue to stick the trailing end onto the canvas. It is not too
sticky and holds the yarn firm for a start.
Then I work over the trailing yarn to hide it. One can only do that if you
work straight stitches in front and at the back of the canvas.
I suppose you need to place washable material at the back if you work
something like Kulim stitch where the yarn leaves one row uncovered for
each row you work. I will enquire at our craft shop where they have all
kinds of goodies.
Thanks for your tip.
Hettie

Hi Hettie;
We're so glad that you and Lindy finially got your plastic canvas.
Unfortunately I don't know of any stitches that look good on the back and
frontof the project.
Usually Terry P. puts a blank piece of canvas or a matching pattern piece on
the back to hide the woven intails.
Hope this helps.

Hi all
Joyce sent me and Lindy plastic canvas. I think I'm going to enjoy working
with it.
Are there stitches one can use which leave both front and back looking nice?
I'm trying it with satin stitch to get the feel of the canvas but want to do
more than that.
You're a great lot keeping my creativity going, that's Lekker!
