I'm sure you can do it Lindy. We don't forget things. We just have to find
them in all of our pile of knowledge.

Thanks so much for this, Greg.
We did some very basic plastic canvas at school long ago, but I will have to
cast my mind back many years to try and remember.
This is going to be very helpful.

Hetty,

I am not familiar with what you are calling the satin stitch. However, yes,
you can make the back look very good if not perfect.

Be aware of your stitches and attempt to cover the entire surface. Also, be
aware of how you work with your needle coming back across. I will do a
little explaining.

The tent stitch or Continental stitch as some call it starts in the upper
left of your canvas. Go up through the second hole on the top row and down
through the first hole on the 2nd row. Notice the slant across one bar of
canvas with the high side to the right and the low side to the left. To
continue across with this row, your needle is on the back of the work. come
from that first hole of the 2nd row and go up through what would be the 3rd
hole of row 1. Notice that is the hole beside the previous stitch! Down
through the 2nd hole of Row 2. Work across. It should be smooth and stitches

slightly slanted. Notice the first hole of the first row is empty. That is
correct. Just for reference, Rows are counted down the left hand side and
holes or columns are counted across the top from left to right.

When you reach the end of your row, to go to the second row, how you stitch
changes and this is very important for smooth work. Your needle is on the
back of the work in the 2nd hole from the right end. Come up through the 2nd

hole of row 3 from the right edge and down through the last hole on the
right of Row 2. Notice how where you go up and down reverses when you are
working right to left. This will result in a very nice back. You will have
little places of a few stitches when you change pieces of yarn and if you
change colors, it takes real skill to hide all the plastic and ends and
everything and make it not show. I am told it can be done. But, that is a
very skilled needle crafter.

Another stitch is the slanted goblin which is similar but crosses more than
one rib of the canvas.

This will get you started. If you want to go deeper into plastic canvas, you

can write me or Terry P or ask questions here. It is a lot of fun and
especially for sighted folk, some truly beautiful pictures can be produced.
For us, we can start with beautiful designs and work up to pictures. If
there's interest, perhaps a class could be taught to help everyone. But, it
isn't fair to you and Lindy to give you the plastic and no help with what to

do with it. Afterall, most craft supplies come with some kind of printed
instructions (big smile). So, I thought since Joyce was so kind to send you
the plastic canvas, I could at least try and give you some instructions to
get started. Ask if you need more.

Hi all
Joyce sent me and Lindy plastic canvas. I think I'm going to enjoy working
with it.
Are there stitches one can use which leave both front and back looking nice?
I'm trying it with satin stitch to get the feel of the canvas but want to do
more than that.
You're a great lot keeping my creativity going, that's Lekker!
