Shelbi,

Yes. All dogs have some kind of flaw if we can call it that. Tammy has two.
Scavenging for bits on the floor and sniffing. I continue to work with it.
But, I know it will never be to where it should be.

My school recommended on the floor in the back as you did. That too isn't
perfect. Sometimes, in the front is simply the only option like in my
friend's truck. But, it did make me stop and think when they told us that
and to be honest makes me pause and say a little prayer when I have to do
it. Just something that I find happens with me (big smile).

Very interesting concept! I haven't had a guide dog for around seventeen
years. I had not heard this about airbags and dogs although it makes sense
because I have heard it about young, small sized children. I never let a
guide have her paws up but would allow them to sit up which means the head
is up. My pet dog, Peyton, rides on the floor in the back seat.
Unfortunately the discipline has not helped her with barking. That is her
major flaw. She doesn't jump, she doesn't go out the front door without a
leash, and other good traits but that barking! She is an Australian
shepherd, just for the record.

Congratulations! I'm glad you now have her. This is so wonderful. With
obedience, you will have no problem keeping barking to a minimum. Consistent
correction for inappropriate barking is all it takes.

But, may I please be out of bounds and make one observation. Perhaps you
will want to consider not allowing her to be in the front area of the
vehicle especially with her head up and paws in your lap. We were cautioned
about this in guide dog school because if there were a crash and the air bag
deployed, it could be really bad. We were told that decapitations have
occurred. I know you were very very excited today. Just something to give
consideration to.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I picked up my new puppy this
morning. She was wonderful on the ride home. She sat on the floor in the
front seat with me with her front paws in my lap and her chin on my arm.

She has met Charlie and he tried playing with her this afternoon. He was
running bouncing off the furniture, running thru the rooms, but it sounded
like she was watching, but didn't choose to join in as of yet.

She is very quiet, curious walking around the house.

I don't know what I will name her yet. I have had some suggestions given to
me. Like Fawn[they tell me she is the color of a baby dear][that I picture
as a light tannish color, not yellow] I had thought of Mara as in Marigold
and then thought of Adding Princess Mara, but if she isn't yellow, then that
won't work.

I do like real girl's names. I named most of my Dachshundss real people's
names, but a few.

She is thin and needs some filling out. She is 5 months old and quiet. I
haven't had a dog that barks in my house since the Dacshunds left. I hope I
can keep it that way.

Joyce
