[Nfb-krafters-korner] A ribboned barrette

The ribboned barrettes I used to get for my daughters were done by lacing
the ribbons to the barrettes.

They would have 3 or 4 different ribbons, maybe a strand of plastic beaded
purls, or a strand of lace, anything that you like bunched up to make a
pretty bow.

Using a clip barrette, the one that has 3 layers to it, the top where the
adornment is the middle which is the u shaped part that puts pressure
against the hair, and the bottom which is the locking bar.

If you pop the locking bar out of the barrette, then the U shaped pressure
part comes right out. Now you just have the top part, the part that shows
on the hair. Using a heavy duty thread, you can tie the beginning edge of
the thread at one end of the bar. Now wrap it around the ribbon you are
going to adorn the barrette with, and the bar. Pull up a 2 inch high loop
of ribbon and then wrap it again with the thread, again pull up a 2 inch
loop and wrap them together again with the thread, continuing all the way
down the barrette in this fashion. After you have wrapped all the length of
the barrette, go back and wrap again between each loop all the way back to
the beginning. Finally one more time the full length of the barrette and
tie it off.

Now place your U shaped piece back in place, and pop the locking bar back
into the barrette.

Fluff your ribbon so the layers of ribbon and lace, or beads expand and
separate to make a nice full bow.
