trying to call you so I can give a better discription of what I am talking about.  I do use a bigger hook for my chains.

but I have learned that when making your beginning chain it is wise to use a
larger hook for the chain than for the blanket. This way the project will
lay flat. Sometimes the crochets are wider than the chain is.
