Do you put the bird seed into the sock and hang it in a tree?  Or what?
Sounds like an excellent progect for kids!

We did the snowman one year with our preschoolers at church. Instead of rice
we used bird seed & gave them to the widowers/widows in our church. The
children enjoyed making them & the senior adults loved the fact that someone
remembered them.
