Hi,
I found the scarfie yarn at craftsy.com site for $7.00 a skein. The site is 
accessable with speech. They have about 7 different colors. I ended up 
getting the silver-charcol. I thought it would be pretty & a color that I 
could wear with everything. I bought 3 skeins & paid $6.99 for standard 
shipping. I thought that this was a good price. I just wanted to let 
everyone know.

Hi Linda and others interested,

I have had a couple private emails with questions regarding this shawl. so I
thought I would provide a bit more information.

This shawl can be made on a 3/4 inch or 1/2 inch gauge loom. However, the
loom must have sixty pegs.
A wool blend yarn with a long color variation is suggested by the pattern
author.

I purchased a yarn called "Scarfie." This yarn can only be purchased from
the Lion Brand website because it is a specialty yarn. it fits all the
requirements called for in the pattern. this is not to say that there are
not other yarns out there that may also fit the requirements. It is simply
the yarn I found. One thing to keep in mind is that this yarn requires you
to block your item after completing it for best results.  Also it must be
dried  by laying it flat.
So if you don't want to go through these steps you might wish to choose an
acrylic yarn instead. Apparently, the shawl will not shape as well with
acrylic yarn, but it may be a better option for some of you.

if you use a 3/4 inch gauge loom you can expect your shawl to measure 78
inches from tip to tip and 38 inches at the center.
If you use a 1/2 inch gauge loom you can expect your shawl to measure 60
inches from tip to tip and 32 inches at the center.

One final comment about this shawl. it is not a simple shawl to make. It has
eight sections and many pattern changes. However, the stitches are not
difficult, you probably know how to make them all.

So this class will probably run for eight weeks if we do a section every
week. Even then, you may not be able to keep up. But I believe that the
shawl will be worth the effort once made. I say believe, because I haven't
yet made it myself. however, I have examined the pattern and know it can be
done by anyone who is ready for a lot of work.

If not, then you may wish to make the loom knit prayer shawl instead.
I posted that pattern on the trinity shawl class email list. If you'd rather
do a simple rectangular shawl, please write me privately to ask for the
pattern. I am currently working on one of these prayer shawls and using
variegated homespun yarn, the shawl probably looks fancier than it actually
is.
My daughter is monitoring it's progress since I am making the shawl for her
as a gift for her Baptism. Maybe it will be ready by Christmas. She was
baptized last weekend but doesn't mind waiting for her gift.
