The half stitch is generally done on the last peg of a row on a flat panel,
sometimes called the turning peg. When you have done your chosen stitch on
the next to the last peg, you will take your working yarn around the back of
the last peg, coming around to the front of that peg, then knit the bottom
loop over the top loop. You are now ready to start your next row. This gives
your project a nice smooth edge.
If you were to do a e wrap or purl stitch on the last peg you would have a
bumpy edge.

The U wrap or u stitch is a type of knit stitch, looser than the flat knit,
but tighter than the plain knit aka reverse purl stitch. This stitch can be
done on either flat panel or in the round, to do this stitch, lay your
working yarn in front of the peg and in between that peg and the next one,
so that your working yarn is toward the center of the loom, do not pull
tight on the working yarn, now knit bottom loop over top loop.
This stitch will give you a tighter, less lacy/holey fabric.
While it does take less yarn to make the stitch, it will take more yarn to
make your project, but it does make a really nice fabric.
