Thanks for this link, Cathy. I will check it out for sure.
I think that Amazon does ship to SA, but not all products are eligible.
I will have to read up a bit on customs etc. and they have something called
free global shipping if your purchase is more than a certain amount, etc.
etc.

Plastic canvas comes in flat panels of varying sizes. , It has square holes
in it which vary in size. For example, you can get plastic canvas with five
holes per inch used in latch hooking, or seven squares per inch for plastic
canvas projects, or ten squares per inch for cross stitch. 

Also plastic canvas comes in a variety of shapes such as circles, squares,
stars etc. these are good for various projects such as coasters.
It comes  in a variety of colors as well as clear.

Doing plastic canvas sounds easy, but for whatever reason I never quite got
the hang of it. I often found myself placing my needle into the wrong hole.
<sigh>
Oh Yes, you use yarn to sew in and out of the holes. The canvas can be cut
into various shapes to form into tissue box covers or other crafts.
