I, myself, do not like the gruves at the top of the pegs.
I prefer Loops and threads if you can not get the Knifty Knitter looms!

I don’t know if it was Jodie or Rena that mentioned making 10 by 10 squares on the 24 peg long loom,, but, the squares can be stitched together with a slip stitch, or crocheted together with a single crochet stitch. You can also use the same stitch for the border on the edges for a fancier blanket.
Also, the Boye looms have a horizontal groove around the top of the pegs, this might be to prevent your stitches from popping off the pegs. this groove can snag your yarn and mess up your work.
The Michael’s Loops and Threads Looms don’t have this groove, so the yarn slides more smoothly on the pegs.
