My daughter and I make dog treats for her 4-H events.  

2 cups wheat flour
2  baby food 4 oz. size jars (applesauce and bananas)  You can use other flavors too like (sweet potatoes, pumpkin etc.)

Mix it together.  Roll out and cut with cookie cutter or cut into bite size pieces which is what we did before we found the cookie cutters.

Bake 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.  Make sure the dog treats are dried out and crisp so they do not mold.

Dog and cat treats for the pet lovers is a great idea.  There are lots of recipes out there so you can bake them yourself if you wish.  You can also find bone shaped cookie cutters.  I've baked pet treats for friends before.

I used to have a recipe for apple sauce oatmeal treats for horses.  I lost all the pet treat recipes when my computer crashed.  I will have to llook them up online again.

Hi all, I was just thinking that you could also fill a Mason jar with dog or cat treats.
Nella, you could fill one with Cheerios, oats, and peppermint candies for a horse salad.

OK you are being not allowing for participation.  So now hear me out.

Work on maker's end:

Be creative layer your jar and then add some decorations to make it quite Festive.

Receiver's participation:  They get to try to spoon in and get all areas, they get to sit there and stir this all up themselves or they could dump it out or put it in a larger jar and shake it.

Why do we have to do all the work?

I think they would have to mix it up all together or you would not get the right amount in each spoonful.

I have heard of this chocolate coffee jar thingy, but opinion please, what if you layered each one a little amount or a lot so it would look pretty with the browns and white  and on your note tell folks to dig down deep to get all the flavors or just mix it up!???

That way it would look more interesting when presented as a gift.

Here is a recipe that would be good for a mason jar.

Swiss Mocha Mix

2 cups Swiss Miss Cocoa
1 cup instant coffee
2 cups non-dairy creamer
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly.  Store mixture in a covered container.  Add 3 to 4 tsps mixture to 1 cup hot water.  This makes 4 cups of mocha mix.

You could change the flavor some by using flavored coffees or creamers.
