We have all been listening to Terry's nightmare and all think how horrible
that would be if it happened to me.

I have been keeping up with Terry's situation and searching around for more
information.

What the word is on all of this that I have learned is you have the ability
to backup your files right inside of windows and I have found step by step
instructions to do it in Windows 7 and Windows 8. There is two important
things you need to do when backing up. One is to backup all these files
like documents, music, pictures, movies etc. The other is to backup your
total hard drive. This one will make a copy of your total drive with all
programs, settings, etc. This is done once each time you add new software
to your computer. As it replaces what you first saved and that is why you
don't do this unless you add new software. Then there are folders that you
have example dox files, pictures, etc and these you want backup frequently.
Default for Windows 7 is monthly and in Windows 8 I think it is daily or
every so many minutes. There are different settings you can choose
depending on the version of Windows you have.

They advise that you keep these backups in 3 places.or let me correct that 2
other places beside your computer hard drive. Some type of external drive
like thumb drive or external hard drive and one like the place where it is
online. They tell you this and I never thought of it until I read this, but
thumb drives, external hard drives are kept in your home like your computer
is kept there. Well if you have a fire,hurricaine/flood then you can lose
those backup devices, too. These external devises are usually most commen
attached via USB port and the external hard drives can stay plugged in and
it will automatically backup on a schedule and not sure but the online ones
back up on a schedule, too. I don't know if both of these are doing it at
the same time.

Well there is my computer lesson for you today. So why are you still
sitting there. Get going and backup your computer ASAP!

Joyce
