Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] I Have done it! Happy music, I have heard it now!

For the last few weeks I have been quietly working a lot on my embroidery machine. I didn't give up, but I have learned a lot. I went away for 2 days for an embroidery class and that was 2 hole days 8:30 A.M. until 5 P.M.
sitting and listening and there were 3 people using one machine. So we rotated around and I had a taste of what you can do with an embroidery machine. I came home on Sunday and sat down and wrote am email to the manufacturer [Baby Lock] and complained that this store sold me one of their machines and making me wait 6 months before they will have a class to teach me the basics. They didn't even show me how to thread it or wined the bobbin.

Little did I know that they read this email on Sunday night and forwarded it to the store I purchased it at and sent me some questions back.

I had a 2 hour lesson, one to one with the embroidery machine teacher that week at the store. I came home and have been working with it for the last twoweeks. I have learned a lot more and thought out how a blind person can do it. Learned what the sounds of the machine mean. Practiced and learned about stabilizers and hooping. I have made some mistakes by accident and doing things I should have not done.

Tonight, I did reach one of my goals. When you turn on a computer it makes
a music sound and so does this computer in my machine. When you need to
change colors of thread it does a short music sound. When it is all finished it [I'm Calling it], the "Happy Dance music"! The tune is a little longer and ends on a upward beat. Well I finally did a project, all on my own and heard the "Happy Dance Music!"

I do have some other things to work on how I will know what to do, but I am on my way...

For those who made comments for reading the computer screen, I found
"Googgleyes" that worked the best and turning off the flash.

I heard that there is an embroidery/sewing machine that has an app that will work with the computer screen on the sewing machine and your IPhone/IPad.
Yep, I sent an email to Baby Lock and asked when they will have WI for their machine screen. I also talked to the owner of the sewing machine store and asked him that question, too. He told me folks want this to happen and he is thinking that Baby Lock will have this as an upgrade software next year.

So yes, Mommy, I can use an embroidery machine without seeing. It will be much better when the app will show the screen of my sewing machine or read it with voiceover on my IPhone/IPad.

Just need to figure out how to label the colors on the spools of thread.
There isn't a way to attach barcode labels on the spools or the pen friend labels. Maybe I will have to write more letters to the thread makers and ask them to put barcodes on the spools that a barcode reader can scan.

I have had my machine since August and was waiting for the beginner's class atwhere I purchased it. I learned 2 weeks prior to Turkey Day
