Hey Maryanne,
You are speaking for me, with most yarn. In fact I will be teaching this in
the Beginners Crochet class in Jan. this year. I would love to just start
and go but if I do not wind the yarn, I can be certain there will be a mess
inside the skein. I have been told the cheaper the yarn does this the most,
not sure about this but frustrated as well. If you find any solutions please
post, I recommend to wind before starting.

Does anyone besides me have problems with yarn being a mess when you begin
using it? I spent over an hour last night getting yarn untangled so I could
make a ball. I usually just begin using the yarn without untangling it and
it works fine but, sometimes it is in such a mess that I have to untangle it
and make a ball. It is frustrating because that is time I could spend
knitting.
