[Nfb-krafters-korner] Didn't have surgery

Hi Joyce,
That's terrible! nowadays anyone who goes in for a procedure of any kind or just to the hospital needs to have someone to advocate for them and know what is going on with their medical conditions. I used to follow close behind my parents with their doctors and medical care. One time my mother was going in for a procedure where they were doing an arteriogram of her left leg where they had to go in the artery of her right thigh, through the groin, and down into the left thigh. she was supposed to stop her blood thinner but hadn't. Her doctor later said he couldn't remember if he had told her this. (I hadn't gone to that wound care appointment.) I was there for the procedure and asked the radiologist about the procedure. When he told me what it involved, I said that no one had told her to stop her blood thinner. they immediately did a PT test and determined there was no way she could have the procedure at that time. It had to be rescheduled and I was made aware of stopping the blood thinner ahead of time. so many mistakes are made medically. It's scary. I also pulled her out of a nursing home because they didn't know how to manage her diabetes. At breakfast they would give her a juice, fruit, and a sugared cereal. (I don't know when they tested her blood sugar and when they would give her the diabetes pills. Then they would give her insulin because her blood sugar was too high and soon after that, they would have to treat her for a low blood sugar. This kept happening daily and I got tired of it and brought her home early. Another nursing home didn't stop her blood thinner before she was having surgery and they had to postpone the surgery for several hours while they gave her Vitamin K and blood plasma to thinken her blood. You have to stay right on top of everybody. Some people shouldn't be in the profession they're in. Keep us posted.
also, have you asked to be referred to a Certified diabetes Educator? They should be the best one to help you figure out how to balance your meds, carbs, and other pertinent areas. Your health insurance may be able to cover this. You are in my prayers. Please keep me informed.

terrible. Can you find another doctor and hospital?

I am back, but will
take a few days off. I went in for the surgery and my
blood sugar was too low, so they sent me
home. I did get a bit excited as
the
surgeon came in and said well we will just sweeten her up a
bit. He
went out and the anesthiologist or
whatever she is came back to say she
refuses
to do it. I said start an IV and give me some glucose.
She
refused. She wanted the nurse to get
me something before I left. I had put
my
jacket on and was about to walk out of the room and the
nurse came
running in and handed me a small
can. I took it and walked out and while
walking down the hall I asked my son what was
it a can of? Hee told me diet
Coke. Now
they are all idiots and I don't think I will go there
for surgery
for anything. They all need a
lesson in diabetes. I am sure I wasn't the
first diabetic that has walked in their door
for surgery.
Joyce
