Greg, I am embarrassed for you.  My email has been down all week.  This is
the first time I have been able to read any of this discussion.  

One of the reasons that voting has been done by those present in person is
so that a secret ballot could be taken if requested.  Another reason is that
nobody ever asked for anything else.  You have been around long enough to
know who the oficers are if you cared and paid attention.  It has now been
announced.  When we are all separated all over the country, we have to be
patient and gentle with one another. 
Perhaps you think this message isn't gentle.  If so, I am sorry.

I did ask on I believe Monday for it to be explained how voting and such
takes place on Monday when the discussion of streaming audio came up. To
date, our President and Board have said absolutely nothing.

I find this practice to be deplorable and says to the membership that the
Division is supportive of the rich and fortunate and not the majority. It
costs a lot of money to go to convention if it is even possible. We have
been given no information of what offices are up for election. We have been
given no information about how that whole process of electing those officers
occurs. We were told by being a member, we get to vote on Division business.

We are even being told this meeting may occur with no input at all from
those at home. Whatever happened to simply doing a conference call like we
do for other things? However, we have been given information on how to pay
our $20 membership fee. Other groups do everything done in this division. 
This division is not representative in the amount charged for membership. We
get absolutely nothing here that we can't get elsewhere except the privilege
to pay the Chosen elite some money. They don't even treat us with respect. 
There are free groups for the blind crafter without all the political
baggage.

Until leadership decides to be representative of all and not a few, I will
be doing a wait and see on paying any memberships here.

As you know, I speak my mind. I do totally agree with you on this one. I
have spoken out on this subject and was directed to bring motion to floor to
change. Sorry I am not strong enough to take up this fight. However, before
saying anything, I think we need to hear from our President and Board, as to
if they have followed this rule or if this division is different. I can not
say how it is, and if it can be changed. We need to ask, by Roberts Rule for
a direct answer, politely from our President and Board, and if this the
rule, how we as a division can change it, if possible. All things can change
by the action of the membership.

I strongly disagree with the NFB constitution rule that says that only those
present at the division meeting are allowed to vote for the officers and
board members and that those present via conference call can only nominate
from the floor.
I have never seen this rule in the Roberts Rules, and have never seen this
in other organizations that I belong to.
A person has the right to vote if they are a dues paying member. And their
vote can be cast by phone, snail mail, e mail or in person.
Why am I and the others in this group paying dues if we are being denied the
right to vote?
this is truly unconstitutional in my eyes.
I know that I've just opened myself up to a big battle with this group
specifically with the board, but hey, been there, done that before.
I am not going to sit back and keep my mouth shut if I feel that something
is wrong.
TheNFB Constitution needs to be amended badly.

I brought this topic up at last nights chat.  The only ones who can vote are
those, present at the meeting and have payed their dues.  Those calling in,
can elect for an office, but can not vote.  We did not make up these rules.
We followed the rules of the NFB, when we started.
This will be my first convention, that I have not been able to attend, since
I started going.
I, myself, am shocked at this news.
Hopefully we will be able to have a call in number, like we did, in the
past.

Please, let us know if you are going to convention.  We need help at the
craft fair and in the exhibit hall.  Helpers do not need to be members, so
friends and families are encouraged to volunteer.  We will also have our
annual business meeting.  Those who are there will have the best seats. We
may be able to hook up electronic connectionsk, but the best seats will be
in the room. The agenda is out, so go ahead and download it and mark the
events you want most to participate in live and  online.  Not all will  be
online, but many will, especially the general sessions and the banquet.
