Well said, Terry P., I was actually composing an email that pointed out
where technology was when the division was created and where it is now when
my computer locked up and I lost that email.

These are all good points and instead of whining about what has always been,
perhaps offering up suggestions and asking how you can help implement them
might be a better option.

I can tell you that an amendment to the constitution is what is needed to
make this happen. National office would need to be consulted to see if there
is anything in the national constitution that would prevent a division from
making a change about when officers are voted on. Our current constitution
stipulates at the national meeting at national convention.

A proposed amendment could be that officers are elected two weeks after the
national convention of the NFB and voting will take place by such and such
means. The reason I gave two weeks after convention is because you want
established officers to conduct whatever business is happening at the
national convention.

I can see where this rule came from for the whole NFB for open board
meetings and such.  It would be almost imposible to count votes of those
listening to the stream of the meeting and accomplish all we do, in the
small amount of time.  Also, when this was put into the constitution, we
were not streaming the convention.
I think small groups, like NFBKK, maybe the cars division, Deaf Blind and
groups like that should be allowed to call in and vote.
Could this be a resolution or do they all have to do with improving the
lives and work environment of the NFB and other handicapped people.
Since I have never missed a convention, since I started going, thoughts like
this never crossed my mind, until I got put on the other side of the fence.
The year, Joyce called in, does this mean, she and the others who called in,
did not get to vote?

Could we vote by e-mail, before convention?
Just another option, to include others.

As you know, I speak my mind. I do totally agree with you on this one. I
have spoken out on this subject and was directed to bring motion to floor to
change. Sorry I am not strong enough to take up this fight. However, before
saying anything, I think we need to hear from our President and Board, as to
if they have followed this rule or if this division is different. I can not
say how it is, and if it can be changed. We need to ask, by Roberts Rule for
a direct answer, politely from our President and Board, and if this the
rule, how we as a division can change it, if possible. All things can change
by the action of the membership.

I strongly disagree with the NFB constitution rule that says that only those
present at the division meeting are allowed to vote for the officers and
board members and that those present via conference call can only nominate
from the floor.
I have never seen this rule in the Roberts Rules, and have never seen this
in other organizations that I belong to.
A person has the right to vote if they are a dues paying member. And their
vote can be cast by phone, snail mail, e mail or in person.
Why am I and the others in this group paying dues if we are being denied the
right to vote?
this is truly unconstitutional in my eyes.
I know that I've just opened myself up to a big battle with this group
specifically with the board, but hey, been there, done that before.
I am not going to sit back and keep my mouth shut if I feel that something
is wrong.
TheNFB Constitution needs to be amended badly.

I brought this topic up at last nights chat.  The only ones who can vote are
those, present at the meeting and have payed their dues.  Those calling in,
can elect for an office, but can not vote.  We did not make up these rules. 
We followed the rules of the NFB, when we started.
This will be my first convention, that I have not been able to attend, since
I started going.
I, myself, am shocked at this news.
Hopefully we will be able to have a call in number, like we did, in the
past.

Please, let us know if you are going to convention.  We need help at the
craft fair and in the exhibit hall.  Helpers do not need to be members, so
friends and families are encouraged to volunteer.  We will also have our
annual business meeting.  Those who are there will have the best seats. We
may be able to hook up electronic connectionsk, but the best seats will be
in the room. The agenda is out, so go ahead and download it and mark the
events you want most to participate in live and  online.  Not all will  be
online, but many will, especially the general sessions and the banquet.
