Keepsake Quilting has a kit for this. Included in the kit is the hook needed, 2 1/2" cut strips [known as jelly rolls in the quilting world] and printed directions. I don't remember but I think there was enough fabric to make place mats or seat covers. I don't remember how many you could make as I purchased this several years back within the last 3 or 4 years.
Jelly rolls are pre cut and most common are 2 1/2" strips. They do come with like 40 of these strips. Each strip is 2 1/2" by 45".
This sounds like a class I should teach. Any one interested in me doing this?

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] crochet with fabric
Hi again Jean,
I am intrigued by crochet with fabric. This craft could make some nice home decorating items for myself or gifts for others. .
I googled crochet fabric strips, hoping for a pattern - preferably written instructions; but I wasn’t very successful. Do you have a resource site to suggest for more information?
Thanks,
Catherine J .

The strips are joined by cutting a tiny slit in both the old and new strip, and then passing the tail end of the new strip through both slits and pulling. It makes a small discrete knot that doesn't show much. For making what one might call rustic throws and such, fabric strips make the work go fast. That's what I am told, anyway. Their bulk would definitely suggest that. I can say that twining with the fabric strips goes a lot faster than making rugs with latch hook, which is something I did years ago.
