Yes, if you want to use circular needles, that will be fine. If you have
been knitting with straight needles and use any one or more of the needle
stabilizing techniques, you might find it awkward at first to use Circular
needles. Once you get used to circular, I truly believe that you will find
knitting more relaxing as it takes less movement and energy to use the
circular needles. Or at least that is my opinion.

Annette, I have not ever been able to use the circular needles. Will you
teach us how?

Hello All,

I recently mentioned here on list that I will be teaching a 2 part
beginner's knitting class the first 2 Saturdays in April at 2:00pm. Those
interested in learning how to cast on and do the knit stitch only, should
sign up for Part 1 only. Those who want to learn to cast on, knit and purl
should sign up for both sessions, and those who already know how to cast on
and knit and only want to learn to purl should sign up for session 2 only.
Please note that binding off will be introduced in Part 1, and reviewed at
the beginning of Part 2.

Since Part 1 is just about 4 weeks away, I thought it might be best if I
posted information about the materials you will need for the class.

. . Knitting needles size 10. Note, any size between 8 and 11
can

work if that is what you have available. Straight or circular is up to you.

Once I learned about circular needles, I've not gone back to straight
knitting needles. I find circular needles to be easier to work with, and
much more versatile. If you choose circular, I recommend 24 inches. I
think smaller is difficult to start with, and anything greater than 32
inches can be unruly if you are working with a small number of stitches. If
you are electing to use straight needles, 8 to 10 inches in length will do.
I'm guessing at their length as it has been years since I've used or
purchased them. Knitting needles are made of a variety of materials. I
personally prefer wood or bamboo. However, I knitted with metal or plastic
for years. Plastic will probably be the cheapest if you do not want to
invest a lot of money until you decide if it is the right craft for you.

. Worsted weight yarn or thicker. The yarn should not have a halo

(fuzziness) to it. NOTE: If you utilize any functional vision, you will
want a light colored yarn, however, even if you have vision, I encourage you
to participate in the class and try not to use your vision, but this is a
personal choice and I will respect whatever you elect to do.

. Scissors.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions. Watch for instructions on how to sign
up for these classes.

Annette
