That's really not a lot of yarn at all. This is so interesting. Thanks for
sharing. I think a square loom or something to make squares might work
better for me to start. I have the square potholder loom that used the
loops. I wonder if a person could use that!

Jim is from Fayetteville, North Carolina. It has been a while since I
worked on the triangle looms. I want to say to make a 5 foot shawl it took
like 550 yards of yarn, but I need to say I put a fringe on the two pointed
sides and that was 12 inches long and then folded in half.

What is so cool about doing a shawl on a tri loom is you weave it and gringe
it while it is still on the loom. So when you take it off the loom it is
totally finished.

I love the shawl I made for myself. I had a hand spinned yarn that they had
put beads on it which was a dark gray and I held a thin strand of black
munny fur hand spun yarn. I love to wear this as I am constantly petting my
shawl and everyone else that touches it ends up petting it.

I had this loom sitting at my house for a while as I was on a yahoo group of
tri loom folks and no one could describe how to weave this to me. Finally,
about after a month I got a phone number to a lady and she started
describing and listening back to what I was saying and the light bulb went
on and I got it.

I had gotten a square loom [small one] and when I left the yahoo group they
were into rectangle looms for shawls, but I did not go there. The looms are
e expensive and this gentleman in NC is making his so you can move the
huypotenuse down and get different size looms out of one loom. I also
believe he uses nails. I had gotten mine with wooden pegs. The nails make
for a more sturdy loom, but I liked the wooden pegs as the yarn catches on
the nail heads. I dropped my 5 foot loom and broke a few wooden pegs. I
replaced them with the push pins instead of getting replacement pegs and
having to clean out the hole the peg was in and reglue them back into place.

The 5 foot loom was a little small[OK for skinny folks] and the 7 foot loom
was a bit too large. I actually was looking at his 6 foot tri loom. His
looms are not as expensive as what I paid, but you need a place to stand it
up and work on it. I used some type of easle to attach my tri loom to.

Joyce,

Your looms sound so neat. What part of NC is this man located in? I'd love
to know how to weave on one of those looms! I bet it takes a lot of yarn.
Or, does it?

You have peaked my curiosity now. I have never heard of these looms. Can't
even imagine how you would work on one. I have used the hexican for place
mats and hot mats.

Well for National Craft MonthI got , who am I trying to kid? Just for me, I
found a new but old type of loom and purchased 2 matching looms. Some of
you remember going back when I was in the beginning of my blind days, do you
remember me talking about my triangle looms? I got into this kinda big
time. Triangle looms are built to do continuous weaving. You don't weft
and wharf which means put strands of yarn going in one direction all the
way top to bottom and then weave yarn side to side. I had or have at least
6 tri looms ranging from 1 foot up to 7 foot across the hypotenuse[didn't
have a 6 foot one] I really enjoyed working on them, but didn't have a
place to keep it up & standing nor an outlet to sell the shawls I made on
them.

OK that is old news. Well on EBay I was curious if they had folks still
making the tri looms and I found this gentleman in NC that had them. What
caught my interest was he had some smaller looms that he made and I had to
have them. I have an 8 1/2" diamond loom coming and a 12" with 8 1/2"
sides coming my way.

You ask what she's going to do with that? With diamonds, triangles and
squares you make all kind of quilt blocks. Think what you can do with woven
shapes! I can make them look like quilt blocks. Do some different colors
and varigaded yarns wow? Now just imagine using a selft striping yarnand
some solids. You might think, self striping yarn worked on a triangle or
diamond loom? Those stripes will come out as plaids! They are going to
think how did this blind person get to do this? I will see how it works up
and then decide if I need the square.

I guess you can say I got myself a Crafting tool for making quilts out of
yarn. So that covers the National Crafting & Quilting Months for me.
