Hi Ramona,

Yes, I would agree, coming from Idaho for a 2 hour tour  in New York City is
probably not realistic.  However, we have no idea if members who live far
away have friends or relatives in the New York City area, and they could
accomplish a visit as well as the tour.  Maybe if this event is a success,
we can look at opportunities for organizing future events in other parts of
the U.S, or even around the world.  

We know that it is not possible to plan an event that will meet the needs of
the entire group.  Some people do not like to travel, and others do not have
the time or money.   But that should not stop us from giving this a try.  

I'm with you, yarn was not on my mind as much a long time ago as it is now.
LOL!

I do not think that the Lion Brand Studio was in existence in the 60's.

Annette, sounds like a lot of fun, but too far and too expensive from Idaho.
When I was in college many years ago in Washington D C, we used to save
money until we could afford to go to NY for a weekend, but never thought of
yarn.  That was in the 1960's and may have been before it would have been
possible.

Hi All,

 

I started to look into what a visit to the Lion Brand Studio in New York
City might look like.  Between doing research on their website, and having
an opportunity to speak with Shira Blumenthal, here is what I've learned.

 

.         Our visit would have to be on a Friday or Monday.  Studio is not
open on Saturdays, and Shira does not work on Saturdays, Sundays or
holidays.

.         Start our visit to the studio with a tour of the Lion Brand Studio
prior to when it opens at 11:30 to the public.  This would include a
description of how the studio is arranged, highlights of displays.  Maybe
around 30 minutes.

.         Next would be a private session for our group which would include
a presentation of their newest yarns as well as the LB collection, an
opportunities to touch all of the yarns she talks about as she is talking
about them, and opportunities to see an item made of those yarns.  This
might be 90 minutes.  The size of our group would have an impact on this.

.         There is no cost for the tour and presentation.

 

Although we did not discuss it, I'm sure there will be time for shopping
after our tour and presentation.

 

I'm thinking that a Monday would be best for travel reasons.  This give the
most flexibility for arrival times on Sunday, or even on Saturday if anyone
wanted to do sightseeing, shopping or go to a show.  I'm guessing that our
presentation and shopping would be done well before 3pm on Monday, so that
would allow people to have the option of heading home late that afternoon,
in the evening, or on Tuesday.  

 

There are a lot of options for traveling to New York City.  The obvious is
Flying and Amtrak, but there are also many options for buses such as the
Mega Bus and others that go between many different cities.

 

For the purpose of planning, avoiding all that goes on in June and July, and
being able to get the lowest travel fares, we would probably be looking at
August, September or October.  

 

Is anyone interested in such a trip?  Is it realistic that you would be able
to participate in such an event?  Would you be interested in arriving on a
Friday, Saturday or Sunday for a Monday event at the Lion Brand studio?
Before we can look into group rates at hotels, we have to have a general
idea of how much interest there is, and what your thoughts are.
