I think Debbie is talking about the one I have.  The batteries do not have to be changed, very often.  Maybe once a year, depending on how much you make it talk.  Mine also tells you when the battery is low and when to change the filter.  My new system, uses a 6 month filter, so I do not need that feature, but it was nice in the past.  I was luck, when I put my new furnace and air, in, last year, the talking unit, still worked!
I do not program it, just move it when ever I want.  My working hours very.
