[Nfb-krafters-korner] Automatic Needle ThreadersRE: sewing machines

Hi there,
I have a Singer Futura 350 machine and I at first thought that I would not
be able to use the automatic needle threader. I seem to remember reading
somewhere on the Net that someone wrote that they thought a blind person
might have difficulties with this.
However, my sister-in-law, who is also blind had a try and she found she
could do it. I had to have my husband show me a few times until I got the
hang of it.
I am not sure if all of the needle threaders work the same, but with mine
you have to hook the thread in two places and pull down a leaver while
holding the thread taut. When you let go of the lever, the thread is pulled
through the eye of the needle. It is important that you let go of the thread
the moment you let go of the lever, otherwise you will keep it from being
pulled through the eye of the needle.
Then, what I do is to put my two forefingers just behind the needle. If the
needle was threaded I can find the small piece of thread just behind the
needle. I use both forefingers to pull it away from the needle and then
gently grab it to pull it all the way through.
One thing that may be important to remember is that some of the automatic
needle threaders can become bent quite easily, in which case it will push
the thread past the side of the needle instead of into the eye of the
needle. If you don't know that it has been bent, you might be trying and
trying, not knowing what the problem might be.
I hope this might help you a little. If at all possible, try to have someone
show you the action to perform and then, let them watch what is happening
while you do the action. I just wanted to share how I do this and that I
think it might be possible to learn to do this type of action.
Kind regards.
Lindy

I have a brother LX2763 sewing machine it has a dial that you turn to switch
between the stitches. It has an automatic needle threader but I have not had
any success with using it. Has A thread cutter as well.
