Maybe this is a silly idea, but you could trace around cookie cutters.  I
just thought of this while cleaning the kitchen and dusting off my two giant
jars of cookie cutters.

I have all kinds of shapes, for all holidays and lots of others as well.

I would have called those stencils as well. If stencils are  too detailed,
you might try searching for the word template. See if you can find any
drawing templates that let you use a pen to go between the lines. You may
also try making your own by getting a plastic star for example, taking a
piece of cardboard, and using an X-Acto knife to trace and cut out the shape
of the star. If you have a two-dimensional flat star shaped object, use
something that will let it stick to the cardboard, like poster putty, or a
folded piece of tape that doesn't interfere with you drawing and cutting out
the shape. Cardboard is durable, so you should be able to use that template
more than once. That example may be a little more basic than you want, but
it may be worth a try. If you can master the use of the X-Acto knife, it
should be a clean-cut, and you can take your star template, place it on your
drawing surface, and trace the inside. I've had to do this for some of my
ceramic work, and it works fairly well. Sometimes educational stores have
things for children or teachers to use as  learning tools. They have cut
outs of blocky letters, simple line stencils, and other things. I have a
store nearby called US Toy and it has a lot of awesome and helpful things.
Perhaps there's a place like that in your area. There is also this neat
little chain of Japanese stores called Daiso. They sell mostly art supplies,
and their items are reasonably priced. I think most things are about a
dollar and $.50 per item, with a few exceptions. I know that they do sell a
lot of stencils because my two dimensional art design Professor got some for
me to use. I have a few that have differently sized squares, a few stencils
that are called French curves, and some that have circles, ovals, hexagons
and so on. I hope some of this info is helpful and may be of use. :-)
