[Nfb-krafters-korner] What is meant by fisherman's knit?

Aran, or Fisherman's knit patterns have many different kind of textural ellements in the pattern. Lots of cables and bobbles, and twists.

They originated in Ireland. The sailor's wives would make wool sweaters for their fishermen husbands. The wool was spun with extra lanolin left in the wool making the sweater more waterproof. Each family had its own special pattern design. This is a bit morbid, but, if a body washed up on shore after a shipwreck, they could identify the body by the pattern of the sweater.
