Hi Joyce,

I would like to encourage you to reconsider your position on a phone/e-mail combination class, especially for an advanced project.  Maybe we should think of this as a workshop or knit-a-long, rather than a class.  The pattern is shared via e-mail and there is a phone call at a set time each week or every other week for a specific number of sessions where the instructor will address some of the more challenging aspects of the project, in the order that they come up in the project.  Each phone session can also include time to address specific questions from participants.  In my opinion, if you are working on a project like a sweater, it should be more about improving your skills rather then learning a new skill or technique.  

I agree with Cindy in that we need to offer more advanced options.  Everything cannot be all about teaching the beginner level skills.  If those with advanced skills only have opportunities to teach and help others with no opportunity to strengthen their own skills, then you will start to lose people.

I do not agree with allowing a class to be split between phone and email.  There is a lot of prep for the teacher to do it by phone and to do it via email.  With dividing it up that way it will not allow students that cannot call in to benefit and teacher's that don't prefer doing a phone class or doing email classes for them to volunteer to do a class.

We have had some teachers volunteer and do a phone class and then repeat the class via email.  We are thankful for them to offer this.

It comes down to we can please some of the people some of the time, but we can't please all the people all the time.

  Be happy with  the time, what the teacher has chosen and you do have the choice of taking the class, making it the way you would like it and learning from an experienced teacher.

These are all great ideas.  I would like to knit a sweater and  I’m happy to give away.  I made 2 crochet sweater for the first time ever last spring.  My daughter did not want buttons on her toddler strip-tease energizer bunny’s sweater  and the pattern was for a cardigan.  So I improvised by stitching up the front, adding some crochet rows for a stand up collar and placed a pocket over the centre with openings on the sides for his hands.  really very cute, but I know where all the mistakes are.  The next sweater I make I’d like to not have to improvise.
And I always prefer email classes.  With that in mind may I suggest that the class be a combination of email and phone in.  The email portion could contain the pattern and  such details.  The email could be sent out for preparation and review for students.  The phone in portion could be set dates to cover questions and for those students that prefer the phone in aspect of a class.  We seem to be open to new ideas.
