Joyce,

For those of us just getting into sewing, I would personally be interested
in the different kinds of stitches and maybe a second chat on the types of
thread and when you should use them.

I have gotten some in the past.  Here is my comments:

1. Most of the kits come without fabric pieces pre cut so you need to read
directions, have the tools needed to cut.  

Be sure you know what is included in the kit.  As many do not include
backing, quilting and sometimes even borders.

Know what size the kit will turn out to be and if you have any thoughts of
changing the size larger, from a square to a rectangle, etc be sure to
purchase enough fabric at the time to do this.

Pre cut quilts:

Be sure it is the size you want.  Know what is included in the package.  If
you want to change size or shape be sure to purchase enough fabric at the
time.

Start out small and work to larger projects.
