[Nfb-krafters-korner] So what is on your needles?

Well knitting is about all I'm doing craft-wise now that the long
commute and the job has started back up!

I'm making a hat, but I'm using a technique I invented myself which is
real mindless.

I cast on one stitch and do an increase that doesn't leave a hole. Can't
remember the name of that increase. But it leaves a pearl bump on the
right side.

When the base of the triangle is 20 inches or so wide--head sized, I
start knitting in the round. I've done this all on circs.

When it's hat-sized,I loosely bind off.

Then I sew the open part of the hat together, except before where the
part I knit in the round begins, I leave a hole for stuffing my long
pony-tail through.

Next, to finish it off, I use my fingers to make a separate chain of
yarn, like the crochet chain stitch. Using a tapestry needle I sew the
chain along the brim of the hat to give it more strength.

Then I make a shorter chain and sew it over the hole I made for the
pony-tail so it feels like a large, reinforced buttonhole.

I like this project because even if people are chatting at me I don't
need to think or count stitches!
