Nella, you can do that to make place mats or bath mat sized rugs.  You might
prefer slip knotting them together instead of sewing them together after
they are off the loom.  Just weave one pot holder, but only take off two
sides.  Hold the ends of the loopers on the other sides on  knitting needles
with mittens on the ends or something similar.  Slip knot loopers on the
other two for the beginning of the two adjoining pot holders.  They are
already attached.  Put the slip knotted loopers across the loom to  make the
empty loopers going one way across the loom, and then weave in those going
the other.  Then do the same thing with the loopers on the fourth side of
your first pot holder.  You can keep adding on both sides as many as you
like.  A place mat is two pot holders by three.  A bath mat can be three or
four by six or more. This brings back memories.

I wonder if I could make several pot holders and then stitch them together
to make a light weight rag rug?

I thought it might be cute in the kitchen and it would be small enough to go
into the washing machine.

I like the idea of making place mats as well.

Absolutely, kids are taught basic weaving just like the weaving on a
potholder loom.

Harrisville has a good deal on the 7" hotholder loom and enough loops to
make I believe 4 potholders and there is even a tool included to help weave
the loops thru, but it is easier just using your fingers.

That is a memory for a lot of us making potholders on a loom.  I learned
that up at the play ground at the school during the summer when I was a kid.

Actually, I think it was last year I taught a class on making potholders.  

Harrisville still makes the potholder looms and have those wonderful cotton
loops.  Their prices have gone up since I was a kid.  Harrisville has come
out with a larger potholder loom that measures 10" square.  They make the
larger loops, too.

I  was just asked about the potholder looms on this list.

Joyce and all, when I was a girl, maybe 9 or 10, I used to make pot holders
on a loom and sell them in the small town where I lived. I found it to be a
very relaxing and easy craft. The most difficult part for me was taking the
pot holder off the loom. That took me awhile to figure out but I did it.
