Good Morning Nella and Linda, I agree with the both of you in that if I am 
having my lunch here alone because Terry is at work, I'll put my sandwich on 
a paper plate or a Marie Colendar T V dinner plate.
I also agree that cold drinks do taste better in a glass or bottle for some 
reason. And, I do like my coffeee tea or cocoa in a mug. In fact, I am on a 
mission to find a mug with either a black lab, car, truck, motorcycle or 
horse on it.
Are you listening Terry P or who ever my Secret Santa is this year? ( Hint 
hint. )

Linda I just don't like the way a plastic utensil feels in my hand and how
unsubstantial paper plates feel.  Disposable cups seem flimsy and easy to
tip over; and I have this crazy belief that cold drinks taste better out of
glass drinking glasses.  I'm the same way when it comes to using Styrofoam
for hot drinks, I will choose a nice ceramic mug every time.

I can understand using plastic tumblers when one has small children, you
wouldn't want them getting hurt on broken glass.  I'm very frugal and it's
hard for me to spend money on something that I'm just going to throw away.

Nella, I do remember feeling I was cheating my family if I set the table
with disposable wear.  Now I feel like I am cheating myself if I exert
energy using anything else.  I don't use paper every meal; but, I do use it

I hate eating off disposable plates and using plastic ware.  I will do the
dishes and have a true dining experience.  The disposable stuff is for
picnics. Lol

Also I make an effort to have as little trash as possible.  Our land fills
are full enough without me needlessly adding to them. Lol

When I was a bachelor a pack of 100 or 200 paper plates, cups and plastic
utensils that I usually could get at the dollar stor for $1 each did me just
fine.

Linda, have you tried the Dawn dish washing soap, I think it is in a gray
bottle, or so my husband says. Put the dishes in hot water with that stuff,
and voila you only have to give a quick wipe and 90 percent of the food is
gone. There is always a dish washer or portable dish washer. I am with you
and I don't like doing pots and pans. But with the Dawn dish soap takes very
little time.

To me a kitchen table and a dining room table are miles apart in what I
would do. Now if you are like me and only have a dining room table I strike
a happy medium. First who are you. Are you the formal dining room type? Are
you the casual kitchen type where everything and everyone gathers in the
kitchen? Either way, I like a dining room to look like the most delicious
wondrous thing is about to happen. So I want candles a nice low center
piece, and probably my table set all the time with tasteful dishes,
silverware, cloth napkins. I saw this in a home a set table and just loved
the idea. I walked in and got excited thinking about what kinds of things
would happen in such a lovely place. To me, no place mats except for the
prince and princesses. Kitchen is kick back with plastic tablecloth for
little ones, or just a simple cloth. Maybe sugar, salt,pepper, fruit bowl on
the table

Yes, I always do themes for the Holidays. When I had a kitchen, I had Easter
table cloth, Christmas, balloons, red-white and blue themes, and a picnic
table theme. The only theme I would do pretty much is Christmas in my dining
room. Dining room was pretty much changed with the seasons. I, me, do not
like placemats for adults. I do have a washer and do not mind washing my
tablecloth after you leave. My grand kids are pretty clean eaters. Not the
under ten ones, smile. But that is fine. I run my hands around the cloth
where the little ones, and me sit and spray the spots then wash.  So no fuss
at all.

Oh if I have napkin rings I fold the napkins put them in the rings and then
they are set diagonally across the dish. This is a very pretty look.

But hey this house we are kick back, so my dining room table is in my
Livingroom. Right now I have a cloth napkin flat on the table in the middle
so it looks like a diamond square. On each corner are things Kevin brought
back from China several years ago. In the middle is a small rug that is
three dimensional. On one corner is a six inch tall vase all decorated, a
glass ball painted inside, a jade ball within a ball, and the other corner
is a brass bell which really doesn't go, but I like the shape. The shape is
an apple. . but usually I have a red water pitcher, or butterfly vase with
du dads around them. Just simple things on my tablecloth of either white or
blue. At Christmas my table is much more formal.

What color placemats would you use in your kitchen?  What would you use in
your dining  room?

Would you use holiday colors  for Holiday times?  Example red, white &
blue-Memorial Day & July 4, fall colors in the Fall, Halloween colors  and
Red and//or green for Christmas?  Would you use these type only in the
kitchen?

Has anyone purchased placemats lately?  How much did you or would you pay
for 4 of them?
