I use Braille for everything!  labels, reading, writing, music for church
choir, calendars, knitting patterns, financial records, recipes, and on and
on.    My Apex is having a long, lingering death.  I broke down and got a
BrailleNOte Touch, and it appears to be a huge job to move all the data from
one to the other.  And I still prefer the simple apex over the touch, but I
can do email, word processing, and data storage on the touch.  The internet
leaves a lot to be desired still. 

Our BELL students are showing wonderful improvement in Braille, which is
also very exciting.  I have taught a lot of Braille, written a book in
Braille called Beginning Braille for Adults.  I have not taken the course in
UEB, but reading it is not a problem.  Yes, there are a lot of  symbols that
take up more space than good old contracted Braille, but it is not worth
fighting about, especially now. 
What we need is more teachers who really believe in Braille: reading,
writing, slate and stylus, the whole bit.  Data entry is more accurate using
Braille, easier to proofread; figures are more clear with Braille; Addresses
and phone numbers easier to learn; You got my opinion, but I could go on.

Henry when it comes to UEB I guess we old dogs will have to learn some new
tricks.

I can't imagine not knowing Braille.  I use it for labeling, keeping notes
and of course just reading.

I don't think I could have ever gotten through college algebra if I hadn't
been able to use Braille.  It can take sheets and sheets of paper to work
out some of those equations. Lol

I used to have to do a lot of public speaking for some of the jobs I've had
and I used Braille notes for my presentations.  I've seen a few blind people
speak using an ear bud with some type of recorded notes and they never sound
very smooth to me.  It's also easy to maintain eye contact with the audience
when using Braille notes.

Good Morning to you Nella and everyone, I have been a Braille user for about
16 years or so.
I am a grade 2 user, I don't like the new UEB system at all, it's too
confusing I pretty much use Braille for everything like writing out
patterns, labling yarns and other items. I love to read a good book as I
always was and always will be an avid reader.
