[Nfb-krafters-korner] Altoids tins as Storage boxes

You give me an idea to use the cans my flavored tea bags came in, for!
I was eyeing a mini sewing basket at Joanns for small craft items that would look nice in the living room!

I use these for a lot of different things too. I have my safety pins separated by size into tins, my sewing needles are in one, my straight pins, and when I have tiny glass beads I keep them in tins. The uses are many.

Altoids are a type of breath mint. My jaws mispronounces it. Phonettically it is pronounced alltoids.

You can get them where the individual candies are sold in drug stors and quick marts.

The larger tin is about the size of a deck of cards and the smaller ones are about 1 inch by 2 inches by a half an inch high. The larger size is more common. The little one is supposed to be a pocket size to just take enough for a day or so with you.

They have a hinged top.

When we were young those cough drops called Sucrets used to come in these kind of tins. My grandmother would paint them so the box was pretty and not covered in advertising print from the item that had formerly been inside of the box. She would use them for all kind of things. Some things she had these boxes for were: a box of toothpicks in the kitchen, a box full of change by the door to give to kids at Halloween for unicef or pay the newspaper carrier a tip, she had a box in her sewing table for sewing needles, there was one in her desk drawer for postage stamps. She had one in the Christmas ornament box for extra ornament hangers.

I love these little hinged tins, and clearly she did too.

What kind of tins?
Not heard of that or it is a misprint!

I like to collect Altoid tins for my storage containers.

The larger ones hold things like the end caps for my interchangeable needles, another one that I keep in my knitting basket has a pair of folding scissors, a tapestry needle, a measuring tape. I use a small one for point protectors. I use another small one to hold my stitch markers. Then I have for my cable needles a very special zippered change purse. This was made by a friend and is knit out of yarn she spun from German Shepherd fur and lamb's wool.

So n the basket I am using for my current project I will have the tin with the scissors, measuring tape, etc. an abacus, the cable needle pouch and a tin of stitch markers.
