[Nfb-krafters-korner] Want To Know Wednesday 8/30/17

Interesting to think about this. I talk to knitters everywhere, but have
belonged to only a couple of groups. My church has a shawlers group which
meets twice a month with anywhere from four to ten people who just chat, all
doing different projects. Sometimes they ask each other for opinions. And
the church does an annual craft fair and gets all kinds of things, but not
prayer shawls.
The most interesting group was on the cruise I took last fall. Fifteen or
so women gathered to chat and brought their work. Some used Canadian or
European styles, and some were doing very complex projects, but there were
also beginners.

I have found both of these groups to be very friendly. Nobody was
judgemental of others' work. Quite the opposite, if anyone was struggling,
all were very encouraging.

Hi Nella and all,

I found out about a knitting group in my area a number of years ago, but I
did not have the confidence to join it, because I realized I knew very
little and worried that I might be unwelcome.

Then there was and perhaps still is, a blind knitters group, which is an
email list. When I joined they were making what sounded to me to be a very
complex shawl. I felt overwhelmed and decided the group was too advanced for
me.

Then one day someone I was talking too happened to mention that they had
heard that the NFB had a Krafters Division, but they could tell me nothing
about it. I was interested and went to the NFB site and from there to the KK
website. I joined the listserv and quickly realized that this was the place
I'd been searching for. Classes taught by and for the blind, how awesome
that sounded to me.

The rest is history.

I have been thinking that it might be nice to start a craft group at church,
but I am very knew to the church so for now I am joining a women's group and
will see what happens from there. Maybe I can bring it up at a meeting and
see what response I get.

Have a great day!!
Cathy F
