[Nfb-krafters-korner] Mixer for Raisin Bread

It has been over 35 years or more since I helped my grandmother make bread.
And yes, that is where the fried dough came from.

I was worried that if I used "vigorous" kneeding I would kill the structure
of the bread. I suppose the worse thing would be a dense loaf.

Do you sift your flour? If so is there a way to do it without a sifter? I
could probably do another Google search. But at this rate, there will not
be time to accomplish anything today.

Yes, of course, you can gneed by hand. I love to do it! You just need to
get the feel of the dough. If you have made bread before, you won't have
any trouble. But you might try dividing the recipe in half. It is a lot
for your hands if you are not used to it. You can stretch the dough up a
foot or more and press it down from there to hurry the gneeding a little. It
will take about fifteen minutes of vigorous gneeding after you have all the
ingredients mixed together.
Merry Christmas!
Ramona

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] Mixer for Raisin Bread

Hello All of you Bread Makers,

Is it possible to make bread like Ramona's Raisin bread without a mixer. I
am very drawn to making this recipe, but do not own a mixer of any sort. Of
course, I am crazy with even thinking about making this on Christmas Eve.
But there are hours left in the day before we leave for midnight Mass. Well
maybe not, but then there is after we get home from Mass, right? Maybe that
is a little nuts as well. If I wait until after Christmas, I might be able
to borrow my friend's mixer.

I really hope it is possible to make bread without a mixer and you all will
give me tips. Bread has been around for centuries and mixers have not.

Thanks,

Annette
