[Nfb-krafters-korner] OT Tech Help

Terry, the two programs written to convert text to speech are Kurzweil and
Openbook, which cost around $1,000. Each uses its own voice. If you
purchase a "document scanner", and scan into text; you should not have any
problem reading the material. JAWS also has a command for reading "o.c.r"
documents, which means opticle character recognition. I use Openbook, so I
cannot recommend a scanner. I believe Freedom Scientific can answer you
questions. If you call me, I can discuss this further. Courtney has my
number.

Maryanne,
Thanks for reply. I understand the Document scanner, How to you understand
what you are reading or scanning into your computer? I understand these are
made for sighted people what do you use to know what you are scanning in?
Thanks, I am confused over these things.

When I purchase a scanner I purchase a document scanner. These are usually
relatively inexpensive. I can't answer your second question since I don't
use JAWS to read documents.

If someone can supply this help, it would be appreciated. I want to purchase
a scanner. Is anyone here using one is using one or knows about this I need
some help. My first question If using one, what type and is it Jaws
compatible? There are many scanners on the market but they will work but not
sure if Jaws will read what is scanned into computer if it is not in a file
Jaws will read. If anyone could give me advice it will help me very much.
Thanks.

Terry Knox
