Hi Ramona,

I have cast on 24 stitches for practice. After the cast on row do I start with knit 1 purl 1 (the pattern)?

Susie, don't let it make you dizzy. The first stitch of the second row is made in the first stitch you cast on, the one with the tail. That's why you bring the end of the cast on stitches on the right-hand needle to the left-hand needle; pull both ends of the cast-on row to the ends of the needles so you don't have loose yard between the end stitches; and just knit the first cast-on stitch as you conjinue to knit around the circle.
cheers, Ramona
