I had to checkout why there was a National Toilet day, and I learned that it is actually a serious topic.  It is "World Toilet Day" and it is to make people aware of the poor sanitation conditions in places around the world and to promote the need for improved conditions for those who live without what we take for granted.  

Now from serious to silly.

In support of keeping regular, be sure on September 29 to observe National Laxative Day.  This is in preparation to the day after the Super Bowl, or otherwise known as National Poop Day.  And finally, if you are regular, your home's plumbing needs to be in tip-top working order, so don't forget to "Hug a Plumber" on April 25.  

By the way, you better prepare yourself for June 23, as it is National Belly Button Day.  Why you might ask would there be such a recognition?  No other reason than the topic of belly buttons were talked about on social media more on June 23, 2016 than on any other day that year.  

To bring this topic back around to crafting, The second Saturday in June is World Knit in Public Day, June 10 this year.  September 12 is National Crochet Day, November 16 is National Button Day, and the 1st week in October is National Spinning and Weaving Week.  And for those bakers and foodies in the group, October is also National Cookie Month as well as National Dessert Month.

Yes, there is a day for everything. I get a message in my inbox every evening letting me know about what to celebrate the next day. Some of them are for awareness of important things, and others make me laugh.  Among the topics for May 31 was autonomous vehicle day. Yesterday was national doughnut day. June 1 was "speak in full sentences day". When I mentioned this to my daughter, her response was "Dunt get it." Thus a reason for why we need it.

I just sent out a couple recipes from Deb Barns that required boiled eggs. 

Recently I learned that you can steam eggs. I use the steaming basket that is used for vegetables. You put water in the pot and put in basket. Put on lid and bring to a boil. Once the water is boiling you carefully place eggs in the basket and put lid back on. Turn down the temp when water is at a rolling boil; it should be a simmer.  Steam eggs for 10 minutes. Can go for a little less time if you like a softer yolk or a little longer if you are steaming several eggs or larger eggs. When the time is up place eggs in ice water. I run cold water over eggs until they cool down enough to handle and then put in ice water. Let them sit for a few minutes and then tap eggs until shell is cracked all over and peal. This method of cooking seems to make them easier to peal. 

Did you know that the fresher the egg the harder it is to peal?

So, if you're going to be boiling eggs purchase ones that have an older date.

I get eggs from a local farmer and they are fresh; steaming them has worked very well.
