Hi Lovette,

Ok, here is a little chart for you and others who do not shop in the US. 


Note: in the US worsted weightis also medium weight. Net weight refers to
the weight the yarn would be if placed on a scale. it is usually specified
in grams. It does not really help to know that, at least in my opinion. To
confuse the issue, you will notice that somethicknesses of yarn have more
than one name. also, to further complicate the issue, a yarn might actually
be between two different thicknesses. For example, Caron Simply Soft yarn is
a medium weight yarn, but it is on the thin side, however not thin enough to
be called a sport weight yarn.

This is why swatching, particularly for a garment is so important.
