I have a business that is in the start-up holding pattern. The business name
and account have all been setup and the website is in an extremely slow
going right now. I am not currently making anything to sell because we are
in the closing on a house, packing, remodel for selling our house and
showing our house. So, all of my supplies and finished items are packed
until we can start moving into the new house.

Right now, I have no plans for this to be a full-time job. It will be
part-time and mostly a way to pay for me to knit and maybe some extra to put
on student loans.

I am in the middle of starting up a new business right now.  As I wrote
before most of my life I have had my own business and worked a part-time
job.  

I have done most of the work myself, but I will say I paid private
contractors to do some of the work.'

I actually started off at 11 years old and that wasn't the Cool-Aid stand I
would run in front of my house when I was a kid![LOL]

I am starting up an embroidery business.  I bought my embroidery machine
last summer and learned how to use it.  I have bounced around trying do do
some items and learn how to do them well.  So I am still not sure what
direction to head into, but I did go for an interview 2 weeks back and
landed an account with a party rental service.  Right now he has some of my
samples that I made for him and it is a sit and wait.  I really, really need
to get some stock with the merchandise so I have it on hand and not have to
wait for delivery.

I want to develop a line of baby items, so I am working on that, but really
I should be working on Halloween and Christmas items now to be ready for
that time.

I have too many ideas and not enough time.  Gee whiz, I have that in my
embroidery file to embroider on something[tote bag, T-shirt, etc.

It does take a lot of your time and you will burn the candle at both ends
when you go into business for yourself.  

Those 8 years that I did my clown dolls, was well worth my time and effort
as I was home and if I needed or wanted to go to my kid's school, I did it
and just made up the time.  That is probably why I still stay up late, but
now I can sleep in the morning.

Happy Wednesday to everyone.  It is very warm and windy in my part of the
world.  I hope the rest of you are experiencing nice weather.

Some of you were at the chat on Monday and heard Julie Johnson's
presentation about starting her own business.  Often I think being
self-employed could be a good option for those of us who are blind and
visually impaired.  Barriers such as transportation and hiring
discrimination would probably be less of an issue.  There are the
disadvantages of managing all of one's own taxes and the like.  

Do any of you have your own business now or have you in the past?

If so what are some of the advantages and disadvantages?

Have you ever thought of starting your own business and if so what kind?

Anny and all discussion on this topic is welcome.
