[Nfb-krafters-korner] Martha Stewart Loom - WAS: couldn't help myself!

I have not actually used the Martha Stewart Loom, but saw the one my friend
has.  She was not happy with it as it has too many pieces to keep track of
and it was not all that sturdy.  The concept is a good one.  You can make
different shape and sizes  of looms by combining different pieces.  If I
remember correctly, the pegs come out so that you can substitute a different
colored one to indicate where you have to do something, or something like
that.

Have any of you ever used the Martha Stewart looms for weaving?

If so what did you make and how well did they work?

You knit on a round loom or a double rake loom.  You weave on a recutangular
loom or a triangular loom.
The Martha Stewart loom can be configured for weaving or for loom knitting.
Many do not like it, because it is hard to aline the pieces and keep them
together.  I had complications with mine.

Round and round...

Are you talking about a knitting loom or a weaving loom?  Regardless you can
go round and round or you can go back and forth.  If you want a hat without
a seam- go round & round.  If you want a hat with a seam go back and forth.
On a sock loom you actually do both not at the same time, but the heel is
worked back & forth that you go around to do the foot or toe or the cuff
part.

Hi fellow krafters,

My son-in-law and I were looking online yesterday for knitting looms.  We
found a Martha Stewart box of pieces you could put together in many shapes
to weave and knit on.  We saw it online for $40 and at Wal-Mart for $25.  So
I bought it at Wal-Mart.  Also, there is a peg board with two types of pegs.
It is for weaving and other projects..  Again, it was much less expensive at
Wal-mart.

Many years ago, I had a wooden rectangular frame with rather tall wooden
pegs on all four sides.  You strung it in such a way that when you went all
the way around it made square holes.  You kept going around until you had
the desired thickness.  Then you tied each intersection of all of the
squares.  Finally you cut the  ends between the pegs.  All of that gave you
a thick hot pad for your table or a thinner one could be a placemat.  One of
the pegs broke and I used two nails side by side for the peg.  Then it
started falling apart.  I have never been able to find that loom again.  I
am going to ask my handyman to make me one, because I am tired of looking
for it.

Also, we found a three round loom set and a four round loom set.  The box
said you could either weave or knit on them.  I think I'll go back and get
one set.  Then I'll need to find someone to teach me how to knit on it.

Can you tell?  I'm itching to get back to doing crafts.  I am having trouble
waiting for my hand to get better.  Although, I'm not having any trouble
typing.

I also couldn't stand it any more yesterday, I had to pack a few boxes for
moving.  As many of you know, I am a lighthouse and nautical theme
collector.  Our grocery store had a huge display of that stuff.  I bought
pillows for my outdoor chairs, and many other things.  I figured it was kind
of stupid to try to find a place to put them away since I am moving.  So, I
got a very large box and packed it all plus other kitchen stuff.  While I
was at it I did another box of kitchen glass items.  My son-in-law was here
to get the things from the top shelves, so I took advantage of it and got
those things packed also.

I am off to our lilac festival today to see others arts and crafts.
