Hi Bernice and Nella, thanks for this dessert.
I love all of the different combinations of this dish, and want to eat every
one of them.

Here is a wonderful dessert that Bernice shared with us. I plan on trying
this next time I am invited to a pot luck. It sounds yummy and will look
pretty too.

Here are her instructions.

A trifle is a multi-layered dessert, and can be decadent or somewhat more
healthy depending on what you like. It is a dish that can be varied in more
ways than you can imagine. It is extremely easy, and can be made easier
depending on how many premade items you use.

You can make this in a trifle bowl, punch bowl, or any other deep container.
Wal-Mart sells two sizes of trifle bowls. The bowl is deep with straight
sides.

The trifles I have made have three basic layers repeated once for six
layers. Then there is a seventh layer of some kind of topping and a
garnish.

Here are some combinations I have made.

1. Pound cake, diced oranges and pineapple, homemade vanilla pudding
with some lemon extract. The final layer is canned real whipped cream found
in the dairy section of your store.

2. Chocolate cake, sliced strawberries, chocolate pudding. Final
layer real whipped cream with either shaved chocolate or coco as the
garnish.

3. Brownies, walnuts, butterscotch pudding. Real whipped cream on
top with sliced strawberries for garnish.

4. Pound cake, mixed berries, vanilla pudding. Real whipped cream
with a few berries for a garnish.

5. Spice cake, sliced cooked apples, Carmel dip. Real whipped cream
with cinnamon sprinkled on top for garnish. (My grocery store sells Carmel
dip for apples in the fall.)

6. White cake, sliced banana, chocolate pudding. Real whipped cream
with coco or shaved chocolate for garnish.

7. 7. Banana cake, sliced bananas, custard. Real whipped cream with
shaved chocolate or coco as a garnish on top.

I am sure you have the idea now. Break the cake into small pieces for the
cake layers. Drain well any fruit you use. Cool any cooked pudding you
use. I don't think instant pudding would work well unless you were sure you
would have it all eaten the first day.

Terry P could even use her beloved Twinkies for the cake layer.

Bernice says be creative and have fun.
