It is cooiling. You use some type of tubing & wrap it with strips of fabric, coil it into a shape, & sew them together some how. Like I said, I remember seeing it done when I was a child.

I suggest doing a google search to get more detailed description.

I would love to see more beginner sewing & quilting classes & basket weaving
classes. After looking at the Archived classes page, I would like to see a
coiling class taught. I have a general knowledge as I remember seeing it
done when I was a child, but have never done a project.

Yes, a drop spindle is a small tool that is used for spinning.  It is one of
the oldest ways of spinning in the world.  It is slower than a spinning
wheel, but much more affordable.
