GET BUSY AND MAKE THE HOUSE SMELL GOOD APPLE SPICE POTPOURRI

3 tbsp dried apple slices (see note)
1/2 cup pink and red carnation petals
1/4 cup dried sweet woodruff leaves
2 tbsp crumbled cinnamon or one 3" cinnamon stick
1 whole nutmeg, grated (1 1/2 tsp's)
1 tbsp whole cloves
1 tbsp julienne orange peel
3 drops of cinnamon or vanilla scented oil

Note: To dry apples, slice paper thin and place slices in a single layer on
a baking sheet in 150 degree oven for 30 minutes.

Mix dried apple slices with remaining ingredients. Store in a tightly
covered glass jar.

For simmering potpourri, use a teaspoon potpourri per one cup of water.
Place potpourri in water, bring to a boil and simmer on low until the whole
house is perfumed; turn off heat. Strain and let dry if you wish to save and
reuse the potpourri.

I agree.  I love apple crisp, but don't like oatmeal in the topping.  I have
had apple crisp with a drizzle of caramel sauce on top.  Commercial caramel
and butterscotch sauces are usually loaded with soy oil.  Soy oil makes me
feel very unwell.  I, when I get time, HAHA, will have to look online for a
recipe for those two sauces.  Of course, one can live without these two
sauces, but why do it?  

I love the smell of apples, but apple scented stuff usually gives me a
headache.  Quite a few years ago, you could buy a pouch of stuff to boil on
top of your stove at a slow simmer and it made your house smell delicious.
It didn't give me a headache.  Does any body have a recipe for something
like that?  

Tomorrow afternoon I am going with a friend from church to an apple
festival.  A number of years ago, they made an apple pie that was supposed
to break the world's record for the largest apple pie.  I don't like
activities like that, because it is such a waste of food.  Who would want to
eat it.  Anyway, the bees got into it.  The bees and the residences probably
agreed that their town smelled fantastic though.

Last night the kids took me to Cracker Barrel for my birthday, and my
son-in-law had their cooked apples.  I had a couple of bites of his apples,
and they are pretty darn delicious for a restaurant.
