Suzanne, glad you found us. I am guessing you are trying a lot of samples
to be sure your seams are very straight before you try sewing the quilt
together. Squares are a great way to start. You might think about making
square pieces for a pillow case or bag before the quilt to get some
practice. I have never done a lot of quilts; just don't don't seem to be
able to find the time, but the small projects are fun. I started with
fabric samples somebody brought home from a fabric buying trip for a store.
Didn't even have to cut the pieces
. It sounds as though you have a great Dad. Not many men would have the
patience to work with youtube to give you directions.

It sounds as though you have lots of interests, so you will find people here
who do as many. Again, welcome aboard.
Ramona

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] Hi, new member from the UK

Hi I'm Suzanne and live in the UK. I'm 33 and blind except for minimal
light perception and have become a keen crafter over the last 3 years or so.

I am mostly self tought except for the occasional help of my dad who watched
youtube videos in my early knitting days and explained them to me.

Since then I have learned to crochet, weave, loom knit, sew, and have just
started dabbling into jewelry making.

My current projects are a knitted dragon toy for my niece, a bracelet made
by knitting 28 gauge silver plated wire with pre strung beads in it, and a
baby quilt. With the quilt I have only hand sewn the patchwork squares
together so far into strips, then I am going to machine sew the strips
together although this is a bit scary as I've never machine sewn before!!
Then I need to figure out the rest of the quilting process as I go! My
husband and I are both hoping to enrol in a one day leather working workshop
at the local art college at the end of October.

I have been looking through the list of archived classes and they look
great, would love to try some by email some time. The ones I'd be most
interested in are basket weaving (which I've never done), any jewelry ones,
any safety pin beading ones although I have no idea what this is! And any
sewing or quilting ones.

Best wishes.
Suzanne.
