In the past 5 to 10 years the tourism industry has come back.  This is in
part to all of the wineries.  I think there is one every mile.  The Watkins
Glen Speedway has opened back up and not only hold races, but concerts, wine
festivals and a lot more.  Just a few weeks ago they brought back the
Watkins Glen Grand Pre through the streets of Watkins Glen.

Annette, My uncle worked at Corning Glass and had sold a house and moved to
Maryland just a week before the devastating flood. What has always concerned
me is that area has never really flourished since. It's going to be a long
road for Texas, Florida and the islands. We have to work hard toward
stronger and better, and pray lots.

Back in 1972, there was a flood in the southern tier of NY.  To this day,
there are marking put up on buildings, light poles and any other structure
to indicate the height of the water.  In some places it was 10 feet deep.
The Corning Museum of Glass lost a lot of glass artifacts .  And then there
were so many people who lost everything.  Some people lived in temporary
housing for up to 6 years.  Where I lived at the time was about 30 miles
north of the southern tier, so we were not affected by the flooding.  All
that is going on in TX is so much worse given the number of people and the
large graphical area that has been impacted.

Hi Annette, Karen's Grandparents lived there and I think that they lived
through a hurricane or severe flooding.

Henry, it is a tiny town between two rivers near Elmira, New York, which you
may know from Mark Twain. Twain spent many summers writing Huck Finn and
many of his other stories there.
