Hi Joyce, are lymans Orchards still around?
Another place I liked to go to was Bishops farms in Cheshire, man oh man, 
did they ever have the best tasting pies and well ... everything!

As Dixie said it depends what type of apple is when it ripens.  Mackintosh
are in end of August-beginning of September.  The red delicious apples are
end September  to beginning of October.  I want to say the Cortland [not
sure if I am spelling it correct] they last and are the ones they pick the
end of October.

I love to go up to Lyman's Orchard to pick apples and have done that since
Katie was a toddler.  I had volunteered to go with my son's class when he
was 7years old.  It was so much fun even watching over him and his
classmates, I had to put half the neighborhood kids in my van and go up
there again the following wee.
